Encore Medical Corporation:
Encore Foundation Knee System
Encore Medical Corporation is a fast-growing Austin, Texas, orthopedic device manufacturer.

We have found that the defectively designed knees in question were manufactured and sold between 1996 and 2002. It appears the problem was that the tibial post was designed too thin and tends to prematurely wear and eventually fracture (see the white post in the picture below). In most of the cases we have seen, the post fractured within a year or two of use. The average knee implant should last at least 10 years. Based on the number of reported failures, this is considered a very high failure rate. Encore is still a new company and lacks a track record and reputation; thus many surgeons are hesitant to use their products. Yet, for the small number of these knees that were implanted, the reported failure rates are unusually high.
Patients who have experienced a failure of Encore Medical’s prosthetic knee (called the "Encore Foundation Knee System") should contact our firm immediately. To contact us, call 800.965.1461 or complete this form.
